The traditional concept in air conditioning considered synchronisation of the fan and compressor which run and stop together. There was no way to isolate the fan and the compressor. New systems are provided with a separate fan only switch that can be used to keep the fan running even if the compressor is switched off. This is particularly helpful when cooler days when only the fan can be used to maintain the desired temperature and this can save considerable energy.

Dual speed compressor

Compressors in the new air conditioning systems have two speeds. Higher speed means more cooling and lower speeds are or moderate and low cooling. These compressors operate on low speed for almost 80 percent of the time and meet the needs of low cooling on milder days that results in lowering energy cost.

Air handlers with variable speed option are capable of adjusting its speed according to the variable cooling needs. These units run at low speed for almost three-quarters of the time with extended cycles. This extends the life of the system besides making the air conditioning system more efficient with better air filtration and finer humidity control.

Delinking the fan and the air handlers

The compressor and air handlers are synchronised to operate together. But an automatic fan delay mechanism allows the fan to discharge the cool air trapped inside ducts even after the compressor has ceased working that saves the wastage of unused cool air that is left inside the ducts after the compressor has stopped.
